Removable or Fixed

This is the real decision most patients face. Here is the honest trade-off.

Removable

Dentures, partials, removable bridges

  • Cost Lower up front
  • Surgery None required
  • Timeline Faster to complete
  • Stability Can move when eating or talking
  • Bone Bone loss continues over time, because nothing replaces the tooth root
  • Care Removed for cleaning

Fixed

Implants, implant bridges, All-on-4 and All-on-6

  • Cost Higher up front, monthly options available
  • Surgery Implant placement required
  • Timeline Three to six months for healing
  • Stability Stays put. Eat and speak normally
  • Bone Replaces the root, so the bone is preserved
  • Care Cleaned like natural teeth

What to Expect

Four stages, same doctor throughout.

Free restorative exam

A full assessment of what can be saved, what needs replacing, and what each option costs, in writing.

Preparation

Any extractions, grafting or root treatment happens first, all in house rather than referred out.

Fit and adjust

Crowns, bridges and dentures are made from impressions of your mouth and adjusted until the bite is right.

Review

We check the restoration at your routine visits and tell you honestly when something is nearing the end of its life.

Common Questions

About repairing and replacing teeth.

What is the difference between a crown and a filling?
A filling seals a cavity inside the tooth. A crown caps the whole tooth, and is used when there is too little healthy structure left for a filling to hold. If a filling would not survive, we recommend a crown instead.
How long do crowns last?
Typically five to fifteen years. How long yours lasts depends on where it sits in your bite, your oral hygiene, and habits like grinding. We check existing crowns at every exam.
Should I get a bridge or an implant?
A bridge is faster and does not need surgery, but it relies on the teeth either side and does not stop bone loss under the gap. An implant replaces the root, preserves the bone and leaves the neighbouring teeth untouched. We go through both at your exam.
Are dentures uncomfortable?
Removable dentures can move when eating and talking, and long-term wear leads to bone loss because nothing is replacing the tooth roots. Implant-supported options avoid both. If dentures are the right choice for you, we make them from impressions of your own mouth for the closest fit.
Can you replace teeth without surgery?
Yes. Bridges and dentures replace missing teeth without implant surgery. They are quicker and cost less. The trade-off is bone loss over time and, with removable options, less stability.
What does a restorative exam cost?
The restorative exam is free. You get a full assessment of what is failing, what can be saved and what needs replacing, with the cost of each option in writing before anything is scheduled.
Do you handle everything in house?
Yes. Extractions, bone grafting, implants, crowns, bridges and dentures are all done at Access Dental by the same doctors, so you are not sent to a second practice mid-treatment.
