Oral surgery covers procedures that go beyond routine dentistry: tooth extractions, wisdom tooth removal, bone grafting, sinus lifts and frenectomy. Access Dental performs all of these in house at three New Jersey offices, under local anaesthetic with sedation available.

Procedures We Perform

All handled here, not referred to a surgeon across town.

Removal

Tooth Extractions

Simple and surgical extractions where a tooth cannot be saved, is badly decayed, or is causing crowding. Done under local anaesthetic, with sedation available.

Removal

Wisdom Teeth

Third molars usually appear between seventeen and twenty-five. They come out when there is no room, when they erupt at an angle, or when they cannot be cleaned properly and start to decay.

Rebuilding

Bone Grafting

Rebuilds jawbone that has thinned after a tooth has been missing for a long time. Implants need enough bone to anchor into, so this is often the step that makes an implant possible.

Sinus Lift

In the upper jaw the sinus can sit too low for an implant to be placed safely. A sinus lift creates the bone height needed, performed here rather than referred out.

Laser

Frenectomy

Releases a lip tie or tongue tie using a dental laser. These restrict movement and can affect feeding, speech and oral health. The procedure is brief and generally comfortable.

Implant Preparation

Extraction, grafting and sinus lift are often stages one and two of an implant case. Because we do all of it, the planning is continuous rather than split between two practices.

REFERRAL

Surgery and restoration by the same team

Most general practices refer surgical work out. That means a second consultation, a second set of records, a second bill, and a gap where nobody quite owns your case. We do the extraction, the graft, the implant and the crown here, so the plan stays with the doctor who made it.

What to Expect

Before, during and after.

Consultation and imaging

3D imaging shows the roots, the nerve and the bone, so the procedure is planned before you are in the chair.

Comfort plan

Local anaesthetic for most cases. Sedation if you are anxious or having several teeth removed. Tell us when you book.

The procedure

Most extractions take under an hour. Grafting and sinus lifts take longer and are often combined with other work in one visit.

Recovery

You leave with written aftercare. Simple extractions settle in days. Grafts need several months before an implant can be placed.

Common Questions

About surgical treatment.

Do you refer oral surgery out to a specialist?
No. Extractions, bone grafting and sinus lifts are all performed in house at Access Dental by the same doctors who plan your case. You are not sent to a surgeon across town and then back again.
Does an extraction hurt?
The procedure itself is done under local anaesthetic, so you should not feel pain during it. Sedation is available for patients who are anxious or having several teeth removed. Some soreness afterwards is normal and manageable with what we recommend on the day.
When do wisdom teeth need to come out?
Wisdom teeth usually appear between seventeen and twenty-five. They need removing when there is not enough room, when they come in at an angle, when they are trapped under the gum, or when they are decaying and cannot be cleaned properly. If yours are healthy and functional, they can stay.
What is bone grafting and why would I need it?
Bone grafting rebuilds jawbone where it has thinned or been lost, usually after a tooth has been missing for a long time. Implants need enough bone to anchor into, so grafting is often the step that makes an implant possible.
What is a sinus lift?
In the upper jaw the sinus can sit too low for an implant to be placed safely. A sinus lift creates the bone height needed. It is done here rather than referred out.
How long is recovery?
Most simple extractions settle within a few days. Surgical extractions, grafting and sinus lifts take longer and we give you a written recovery plan on the day. Grafts need several months to integrate before an implant goes in.
What is a frenectomy?
A brief procedure using a dental laser to release a lip tie or tongue tie, which can restrict movement and affect feeding, speech and oral health. It is quick and generally comfortable.
