A dental emergency is any tooth problem that is severe, worsening or disruptive: bad pain, a broken or knocked-out tooth, swelling, bleeding, or a crown or veneer that has come off. Access Dental treats emergencies same-day at three New Jersey offices and accepts walk-ins.
What Counts as an Emergency
If you are unsure, call anyway. We would rather tell you it can wait than have you sit on something that cannot.
Damage
Broken or Chipped Tooth
A chip can expose the dentin, pulp and nerves inside the tooth. Even without pain, it can lead to worsening sensitivity and compromise what is left of the tooth.

Knocked-Out Tooth
Handle it by the crown, not the root. Rinse briefly in milk or saline if dirty, never scrub it. Try to put it back in the socket, or keep it in milk, and call us straight away.

The tooth underneath is exposed, which risks sensitivity, decay and injury even if it does not hurt yet. Keep the crown and bring it with you.

What counts as a dental emergency?
Severe or persistent tooth pain, a broken or chipped tooth, a knocked-out tooth, swelling, bleeding, or a crown or veneer that has come off. If it is disrupting your day or getting worse, treat it as an emergency and call.

All three offices hold same-day appointments for emergencies and accept walk-ins. Call the office nearest you rather than booking online and we will get you in faster.
What does an emergency visit cost?
Emergency exams are free. That includes a comprehensive exam, a full set of x-rays and a written treatment plan, at no cost.
My crown or veneer fell off. Is that urgent?
Yes. The tooth underneath is exposed and vulnerable to decay, sensitivity and further damage. Do not try to glue it back yourself, that can damage the tooth. Keep the crown or veneer and bring it with you.
My tooth was knocked out. What do I do right now?
Handle it by the crown, not the root. If it is dirty, rinse it briefly with milk or saline, not water, and do not scrub it. Try to place it back in the socket, or keep it in milk. Then call us immediately, because time matters.
I am in pain but I am not a patient here. Can you still see me?
Yes. We treat new and existing patients for emergencies, whether you have insurance or are self-pay. Do not delay treatment because you are not registered with us.
Will you have to take the tooth out?
Not necessarily. Many emergencies are resolved without extraction. We take x-rays, find the cause, and tell you the options before doing anything. Extractions, root treatment and restorations are all done in house if they are needed.
